A Vibrant Community Has Culture At the Core
As funders, no matter what our grantmaking priorities may be, we all are striving for more vibrant communities. Whether talking about mental and physical health, transportation, housing, social inequality, environmental sustainability, education or another challenging social issue, how can we, as a unified group dedicated to a strong future for our communities, engage best? A major, and often overlooked, part of the answer to that question is through the integration, engagement, and support of arts, culture, and creativity. Arts and culture are some of the best tools for universal, equitable community betterment; creativity is a universal trait, and can be engaged by everyone, drive innovation, reinforce community identity, and create joy and pride. Join together with Iowa funders as we welcome Clay Lord, with Americans for the Arts, to introduce you to a new, national interactive tool called Arts + Social Impact Explorer. We will also have a dialogue about how to place culture at the core of our thinking in the social sector and as a mechanism for community transformation.
